Clinic Day 1

Not exactly off to the best start here... It's midnight, so technically it is the first day of clinic. What am I doing up?  If only I knew.  I haven't been able to fall asleep. Lame. Then a rather significant thunderstorm rolled in. Even better.  Last night the thunder was so loud that it kept waking me up.  There were a lot of flashes of lightening, but it was much further away. Lying in bed, pondering what I should do when I hear a loud horn. It doesn't go away. In my head, I suddenly remember tornado horns.  I haven't even thought about them since....my late childhood. Ah...am I hearing a tornado horn? And if I am...what exactly does that mean? What is it that I am supposed to do? Huh. I called my brother and he got online and sure enough, he found that there was a tornado warning here in Topeka. Awesome.  We made a plan for what I should do if the horns go off again. Weird. So, now it's after midnight. There was a tornado, somewhere close enough that I heard the horns.  Not even close to sleep. Great start to clinical rotation numero uno!

  1. Hi! No worries, no worries...I stayed awake until about 2 am last night before the first day of clinic...so, 4 hours of sleep before the first day is crazy but I survived, haha. Lets see, how did the day go...well, I arrived an hour early and proceeded to sit in my car to review goni since I was nervous. Caton Manor is a SNF in Baltimore (10 mins from a certain someone's house who was wonderful and gave me dinner). To simply put it, Caton Manor is not your typical SNF. First, a majority of the patients are on Medicaid/Managed Care...not Medicare. Second, the patient population has been described to me as being the result of "urban issues" from the city. Other highlights from Caton Manor, there is a high population of psych issues (nearly every patient), HIV/AIDS, hx of poor healthcare, very low endurance, lots of wound care and modalities. *Sigh* But I will go in every day knowing that I am sure to learn a lot since everyone was really nice today; even if the topics are not my favorite parts of PT. The rehab department is a small space, but is fully loaded with 2 PTs, 2 PTAs, 1 OT, 1 COTA and 1 ST. I think that my CI would get a long great with a certain wound care professor..but she seems to like me so I'm not too worried. One thing I did learn today is that I need to buy some scrubs! My nose has quickly learned that I do not want to smell that way for too long...haha. Anyways, Best Wishes for Day 2!
